WORKSHOP: Learn to fight on camera or stage. Safely.

Actors are occasionally put in the position of performing physical activities in their roles. Commonly they have to fall down but they could also have to dive to the ground, punch, kick, or "take" punches and kicks. For some scenes, like fights, you'll also be expected to learn and remember a series of moves that encompass all of the above. And when you do, it's important to do so convincingly. More importantly, it's important to be able to do so safely and minimize the risk of injury to yourself and others.

We've paired with Orleans Taekwondo to put together this workshop, similar to what we've put our own actors through, in order to provide a program that would be useful for every actor to take with them into their professional career. We used our experience with Untamed Lands and Legend of Oz and refined it so that we could offer you a valuable skill for you to take forward in your professional career.

Participants in the workshop will:

  • learn good habits for stretching and warming up

  • learn to fall and roll safely
  • learn to throw a punch convincingly
  • learn dodging and footwork to avoid punches and help develop coordination
  • learn to react to punch for the camera or stage
  • learn several types of kicks.
  • As well as have the opportunity to choreograph a short routine with a partner and perform it for the group.
